Choosing Umbraco for Enterprise web projects

For many clients the choice of which content management system to use on a project is a critical factor in the procurement of a new web project.  We have found that Umbraco is a perfect fit for Enterprise clients.

For many Enterprise clients the choice of Umbraco has been driven by a number of factors, including existing knowledge, skills and experience of the tools and technologies that form part of the Umbraco ecosystem.

We have found that corporate clients presenting with an Umbraco requirement already have a significant investment in Microsoft server technologies.  Such clients will be running Windows Server on their web tier, and are looking for a CMS that can easily be deployed using tools their teams understand.

Such clients also typically have extensive licensing of SQL Server, and sometimes shared corporate database instances with support processes, DBAs and backup infrastructure in place that make implementation of Umbraco in an Enterprise a quicker process.

Often Enterprise clients will have an existing investment in .NET developer resource, making the transition of an Umbraco site at project completion from Agency developers to in house support and maintenance an easier exercise.

Enterprise clients also are often looking to connect the web tier and CMS into existing security infrastructure such as Single Sign On - which we have achieved using Umbraco and SAML.  Such clients are also typically integrating the web tier into internal systems such as CRM and ERP, which can be achieved effectively using Umbraco by developing custom .NET packages - this is especially simple when connecting with Microsoft products such as Dynamics and NAV.
